“CHILIMASTER”

Most Worshipful Grand Master Tom Jackson presents the “chili trophy” to our very own Sr. Steward Shawn Carrick at the January 15 oyster stew/chili dinner.

Grand Master Tom invited any lodge with in Minnesota to make their best chili, invite him to dinner, and if he deemed your efforts to be the “Best Chili in Minnesota Masonry” he would award the lodge with the first trophy.

Montgomery stepped up and SS Shawn made his own brand of chili and is seen here accepting the traveling trophy on behalf of Montgomery Lodge.

Let it be known that we are open to all challengers who have the courage to attempt and win the trophy
away from it’s first home.

Christmas Trees from Montgomery

Christmas Trees from Montgomery
(A summary of the project)

Well Christmas has come and gone, and W.B. Dave Hansen has made a final report on the outcome of our new program. We bought 255 trees, sold 86 on the lot, and another 130 wholesale for a total of 216 trees sold. We ended up with 39 trees unsold. 25 wreaths were purchased, and 12 were sold. Two of the unsold trees were donated to United Hospital for a fund raiser.

The gross profit from sale of the trees was $669.54. We lost $14.59 on the wreaths. These figures are the difference between sales receipts and the cost of the trees and wreaths. In addition, we paid $194 in gas expense to transport the trees and we invested $447 in signage and display racks. These are re-useable. Not too bad for a for time effort!

Now for the benefits. We had planned to donate $5 from the sale of each tree to the Johnson Youth Hockey program. They received a check for $430 from Montgomery, and we expect they will receive a matching grant from Minnesota Masonic Charities. We also donated $250 to the Johnson High School band, and expect that they will receive a matching grant from MMC, too. A petition for membership was received as a result of the program, and our tree source, Blue Ribbon Tree Farm, is planning to advertise in the Bulletin.

A lot of effort went into this program and many brothers deserve a huge “THANK YOU”. A particular vote of thanks goes to W.B. Dave Hansen who brought us the idea and stayed fully involved in making it happen. Thanks again Bro. Dave. It was a great adventure, as all of those involved can attest. It turned out very well. Nobody got hurt and our customers received the freshest trees in town. The lodge expects this program to continue next year and hopefully in the years beyond then. History of Christmas tree sales shows that sales increase each year. This was and is a great way to serve our community and is the essence of Masonry.
